COLD OPEN | What's the Word on the Street?: Amplify
SCENE | Chris welcomes the viewer while carting some produce and finds Hooper's Store completely decked out in Alan's LMNOP accoutrements. He explains LMNOP is playing a concert today on Sesame Street and he's one of his biggest fans, collecting various bits of merchandise from the concerts he's attended. Telly shows up, hoping he hasn't missed the concert and is amazed at Alan's collection. Chris is, however, a tad embarrassed to be around them and worries how they'll react when LMNOP does arrive.
SCENE cont'd | "Can someone please tell me how to get to Sesame Street?," says LMNOP (Donald Glover) as he appears. They point out he's in the right spot, but he's lacking his entourage. They then call him, saying they've mistakenly gone to their next location instead. He decides to split; Alan and Telly beg him to stay. Chris thinks he can stay if they provide the materials he needs. LMNOP first needs a guitar, which Hooper's doesn't sell, but they could make one if they figure it out...
SCENE cont'd | Using a website, Chris reads how to make a tissue box guitar. Hooper's carries all the needed supplies, except for a tissue box. Alan realizes the only one is his collectible from LMNOP's "Tissue? I Hardly Know You" tour and sadly sacrifices it. With the guitar built, Chris explains how placing pencils under the rubber bands can cause sound (using vibrations). LMNOP loves it and wants to use it on stage, but learns they don't have that either. He is about to leave again, until Chris thinks they can make one too.
SCENE cont'd | They lay out the produce crates to make a stage, but isn't stable enough to hold him and they must find something to hold it together. They see Alan has tape, which is another LMNOP collectible and he refuses to part with it. Telly convinces him to give it up and they use the tape to secure the crates together, forming a balanced, unbreakable stage. Now, they need sound...
SCENE cont'd | Chris' idea is that without a microphone or amplifier, they use something cone-shaped to direct sound waves toward the audience (much like old record players). Unfortunately for Alan, the only cone-shaped items around are his memorabilia from LMNOP's "Lampshades of Love" tour. They use them for a make-shift sound system that works perfectly. All LMNOP needs now is the lights and Telly points toward Alan's LMNOP flashlights.
SCENE cont'd | At night, Chris introduces LMNOP to the crowd (including kids, animals, Anything Muppets, Honkers and Grover), who performs his hit "Figure It Out, Baby Figure It Out" while Alan and Telly shine the flashlights from the fire escape above. "I love this street!," Telly declares.
