SCENE 1 Lulu welcomes the viewer to Sesame Street. She is excited today because she is going to write a story. At that moment, Miles calls out to Lulu and tells her that he is ready to write her story as he comes out from 123 Sesame Street with a pen and a binder full of paper. Lulu explains that since she doesn’t know how to write very well, Miles will do the writing for her.

As they go off to find a place to write, Elmo appears and asks what Lulu and Miles are doing. Lulu explains to Elmo that she is going to tell a story while Miles writes it down. Elmo wants to help Lulu with the story, but he doesn’t know how to write. So Lulu tells Elmo that he can help tell the story while Miles writes, much to Elmo's delight. Before they can start on writing the story, Elmo and Lulu hug Miles to thank him for his help.

SCENE 2 After everyone finds a place to sit and get ready, Lulu and Elmo are ready to tell the story to Miles. However, they both talk at the same time that Miles can’t hear what they're saying for him to write. So Lulu suggests that she and Elmo take turns at telling the story. Once they settle on Lulu going first since it was her story, Lulu comes up with the title of the story called, ‘‘The Princess Who Had Very Very Very Long Hair.’’ Miles writes the title and also writes Elmo and Lulu’s names as the author, which delights Elmo and Lulu.

At that moment, Lulu gets stuck on how the princess was going to solve her problem, so she lets Elmo take a turn on telling the story to see how he can solve the problem. So Elmo thinks and says that he might need a minute to think.

The Royal Problem Solver told her to not move so she would not trip over her hair. So the princess stood very still for a long time and she didn’t trip, but she was not happy standing still in one place. Even when she took one step, she tripped over her long hair.

The story comes to a halt because Elmo doesn’t know what to tell next and Lulu also doesn’t know what to tell either. So Elmo, Lulu, and Miles all do some thinking.

SCENE 5 After much thought, Lulu comes up with an idea and gets ready to tell her part. The princess called the Royal Problem Solver again and told him that she is tired of standing still so she won’t trip over her hair. The Royal Problem Solver came up with an idea of having someone carry her long hair from the ground. The princess liked the idea and gave her hair for the Royal Problem Solver to carry. Although she was able to do things without tripping, the Royal Problem Solver got tangled in the princess’ long hair and got dragged whenever the princess moved. Elmo wants to take a turn at telling the story, but he feels thirsty. Lulu also feels thirsty, so Miles goes to get them something to drink.

SCENE 6 After they all drink their juice boxes, Elmo is ready to tell the next part. The Royal Problem Solver decided that the princess should get a haircut. However, the princess didn’t want her hair to be cut because she loves her hair and taking care of it. The Royal Problem Solver says that she can still do that even though her hair is short, but she won’t trip over it. After the princess thought about it and after tripping as she thought, she decided to send for The Royal Barber to cut her hair.

However, when she started to run, she still had to watch where she was going after she crashed. Still, the princess was so happy that she hugged and kissed them.

Lulu ends the story with a “Very Very Very Happily Ever After.” Miles comments on what a good story it is and Lulu thanks him for writing it. Elmo also thanks Miles and thanks Lulu for having him help with the story. Before Elmo goes off to feed Dorothy, he asks Miles to read the story title again. As Elmo leaves, Lulu asks Miles if he could read the story again and Miles gladly does it.
