You Can't Do That on Television is a variety show that aired on Nickelodeon from 1982 until 1990 (having previously aired for two seasons on local Canadian station CJOH-TV).

References[]

  • Muppet Magazine issue 12 featured an inside article entitled "You Can't Do That In This Magazine" with Kermit the Frog interviewing Alasdair Gillis, one of the stars of the show. One of the show's most notable elements is colorful slime (usually green) would pour down when someone said "I don't know." Miss Piggy had this happen when she didn’t know that Kermit had saved something special for her to do in the article.

Muppet Mentions[]

At the beginning of each episode, an announcer would state that a fictional program was being preempted for You Can't Do That on Television. These announcements were often accompanied by a drawing, several of which featured the Muppets. (This type of introduction was borrowed from the third season of Saturday Night Live.)
