Family Circle is an American women's magazine that began publication in 1932. It sold to The New York Times in 1971, Gruner + Jahr in 1994 and Meredith Company in 2005.
The December 23, 1986 issue featured the four-page feature,"A Sesame Street Holiday Story: Grover's Gift" by Emily Perl Kingsley and illustrated by Tom Cooke. A "The Gift of the Magi" variation (similar to that used in Christmas Eve on Sesame Street), Cookie Monster trades his cookies for a teddy bear t-shirt for Radar (and Big Bird). Big Bird trades radar for a cookie jar. Grover makes everything right, however (and has a wrapped stick horse and sled waiting in the corner for himself).
Although the shop is drawn as Hooper's Store, the text refers to it as a general store, run by Granny Fanny. Granny Fanny also displays a knack for making Hanukkah snacks (potato pancakes). Grover is her part-time employee, adding yet another item to his resume.
