Everybody Sleeps first appeared on Sesame Street in Season 3.

It is a filmed song about sleeping, which includes scenes of people and animals sleeping in various ways. Some scenes were replaced in the 1990s.

The song was included in the Bedtime Stories and Songs video. When that video was re-released under the title Sleepytime Songs and Stories, the 1990s version with different footage was used instead of the original.

A similar song called "Everybody Eats" uses the same tune, but has lyrics that pertain to food and eating. The song was also remade as "Every Kitty Sleeps" for a Suzie Kabloozie cartoon.
