Ernie and Bert have appeared in animated form in opening titles for different Sesame Street international co-productions and specials, including Shalom Sesame, Open Sesame, and Sesam, luk dig op, among others. Bert and Ernie fly, on a paper airplane, from Sesame Street across the globe, stopping in at different exotic locations, before arriving at the localized country.

In April 2005, Sesame Workshop announced that the characters had been adapted as stop-motion or figures for a three minute pilot, produced by European company Misseri Studio. The pilot led to The Adventures of Bert and Ernie
