What's the Word on the Street: Persistent
(First: Episode 4168)

4168c
SCENE
Gordon welcomes the viewer to Sesame Street, when Elmo alerts him that today is "Who can wear the most hats on their head" day, and drags him to the courtyard, where an enthusiastic crowd cheers.

SCENE

Elmo is going to be playing against Zoe in today's game, which is covered by Chris and Alan, assuming the role of both sportscasters and hat assistance. A marching band member does a drumroll while one hat after another is placed upon Zoe's and Elmo's heads at the same time, until there are four hats on each head.

SCENE

A Dinger pops up and dings, which means it's time for the challenge round: Elmo and Zoe have to say the alphabet while standing on one leg, while making sure their hats don't fall off. They win the challenge, and everyone chants, "More hats! More hats!" More hats are added to their heads until they are each wearing 7 hats, as counted by the Hat Check Girl.

In the next round, two more hats are added to each of their heads, and Alan and Chris realize that there are no more hats to add. ("It looks like we have a persistent hat-wearing bunch here today, Chris!") Just then, they get the idea to contribute the baseball caps from their own heads. The Dinger pops up and dings again, signaling the next challenge: Elmo and Zoe must estimate how many hats are on their heads. Elmo makes a wild guess that the seven hats he had before, plus the three hats, equals nine, while Zoe's guess is 11. The amount of hats is once again confirmed by the Hat Check Girl.

SCENE

Elmo and Zoe are tied, and there are no more hats, but the game's not over yet -- Abby Cadabby poofs into view, and comes up with a spell to add more hats on their weary heads. By accident, her spell puts some hat-wearing bats on their heads, and The Count comes over to pick them up ... right after counting them, of course.

SCENE

Abby remembers the right spell this time, and successfully multiplies the number of hats on their heads -- which are stacked so high that they have trouble keeping their balance, having to run as they sway back and forth. Alan and Chris chase them, causing Susan to drop her basket of clean clothes, and Grover's block tower to get knocked over.
4168p

4168q
SCENE
cont'd
Zoe and Elmo end up back in the courtyard, where Abby calls her mommy for the spell to get rid of hats. It turns out that a spell isn't needed, so Alan and Chris lift the hat towers their heads. The Hat Check Girl counts the hats by fives, and finds that each head was able to withstand 30 hats. Elmo and Zoe were tied once again, which makes them proud. They go off to play another game -- one which doesn't involve hats.
4168r
SCENE

Everyone leaves, and Abby tells Gordon that she'll never say that hat spell again, yet by saying it for that last time, she ends up putting a stack of hats on top of Gordon's head!

A group of penguins begin their dance practice, but a large ice block is in the way. Super Grover 2.0 arrives in the Super-Grovermobile to help. Using his powers of observation, he sees the ice block is in the way of the problem, but learns it is the problem. Now with his powers of investigation, he tickles the ice to see if it will move. A penguin suggests pushing it, but Grover declares it as his own idea and tries to push, with no success. He makes a bigger push (running into it), but doesn't move. While he goes to get some useful technology, the penguins notice the Super-Grovermobile is big and heavy like the ice, but it can move with the help of wheels. While Grover begins to whack the ice with a golf club to move it, the penguins take his wheels (and his golf club) and stick them under the ice, making it easy to move. As the penguins dance off, Grover wonders why his car won't move.

Elmo the Musical: Circus the Musical
In today's musical, Elmo plays a "monster with a dream" of joining the circus. At the bigtop, the ringmaster tells him he needs an act before he can join, which Elmo doesn't have yet. The first act, the Great In-Betweeni can't go on (he's stuck between a rock and a hard ting), so Elmo goes on his place. He takes a leap from the trampoline to land between two cacti, but lands on top of instead. A performing chicken does the act perfectly. The next act, High-Walking Hidi, also cancels, having stubbed her toe. Elmo tries his best to walk on the high wire, but sneezes and falls down to the low wire. The chicken again performs the act with ease. The big finale is Zowie-Zown the Upside-Down Clown, who immediately quits when he hears he's been accepted to law school. Elmo tries to do his act and fails to stay upside-down; he decides to give up on his dream. The chicken convinces him to "Keep on Cluckin'" and not give up. Elmo tries again and does a perfect hand-stand, and the crowd goes wild! (truncated theme song)
