Alan welcomes the viewer to Sesame Street. Baby Bear sits at the counter of Hooper's Store and asks for a dish of porridge with brown sugar and honey; his usual treat.
At that moment Telly, Monster on the Spot reporter, walks in and announces the day's event: It's National Try a New Food Day on Sesame Street!

Telly inquires what food Baby Bear intends on eating. Although porridge is his usual treat, Alan suggests a new twist by putting strawberries on top. Baby Bear is reluctant, but gives it a try and finds it delicious!

Oscar the Grouch is Telly's next interview subject. Oscar neither cares about the event nor for Telly's food suggestions, but notes that he's never had a cherry on top of his chocolate ice cream with fish, sauerkraut, and marshmallows before. With that in mind he disappears into his trash can, prepares the delicacy, and loves how terrible it tastes.

Back in Hooper's Store, Baby Bear has tested porridge with strawberries, peaches, raspberries, and other fruit as toppings; finding them all delicious. Telly returns, and Baby Bear enthusiastically conveys the news to him.

Afterwards, they take a break. Telly sits down and asks for his usual lunch: a grilled cheese sandwich cut into triangles. Baby Bear inquires what new food Telly intends to eat, suggesting a sandwich cut into squares instead of triangles. Caught off-guard, Telly finds himself nervous and at a loss for words.

Baby Bear takes the microphone and narrates while Telly tastes the square-cut sandwich. To his surprise, it tastes "just as yummy" as his usual sandwich.

Wanda the Word Fairy drives to a market to demonstrate the words of foods, attracting the suspicious gaze of the grocer in the process.

The Letter of the Day Games: Cookie Monster finds three things beginning with the letter V in one minute, to the unfortunate consequence of Prairie Dawn's violin.

Kids pass the letter "V" to each other, naming words that begin with the letter.

When Telly wants to eat, he says "Let's Eat!" When Rosita wants to eat, she says "¡Vamos a comer!"

Broccoli asks Comoria her favorite healthy food, and is flattered by her answer.

Ernie and Bert: Ernie sings "Breakfast is the Best Meal of the Day" with a singing banana, toast with eggs and a bowl of oatmeal about how good breakfast can be. By the end, Bert is hungry and ready for breakfast, but Ernie informs him that it's the middle of the night and not time to eat breakfast yet.
