Snuffy is walking around the arbor looking for Big Bird. He asks Gordon and Alan if they seen Big Bird, but they said they haven’t seen him. Snuffy continues to find Big Bird and thinks it shouldn’t be hard because he is so big.
As Snuffy passed by 123 Sesame Street, Big Bird (played by Matt Vogel) calls out to him and runs after him, but Snuffy didn’t hear him or notice him. Suddenly Big Bird noticed the viewers and welcomes them to Sesame Street. He says we look big today, but then he realized that it is because he is still little.
Big Bird recaps in the previous episode on how Mumford tried to do his new magic trick, the "big and little" trick, to turn the big letter M into a little letter M. However, He accidentally changed Big Bird into little Big Bird. At first Big Bird thought it was fun, but he wants to be big again so he can play with Snuffy. He is on his way to see Alan and Gordon, so that they can help him find Mumford.
As Big Bird walks on, he got tired and says it’s a long time walking to there. He remembers when he was big; he used to take big steps. However since he is small, he now has to take little steps now. He believes it’s going to be a long time for him to get to the arbor and wished there was a way to get to there faster.
At that moment, a ladybug crashed on the ground and Big Bird checked to see if the ladybug was ok. As it turns out, the ladybug wasn’t a lady, but a guy name Mike. Big Bird observes that Mike doesn't sound like a ladybug, but Mike informs him that not all ladybugs are ladies.
Big Bird introduces himself to Mike, who laugh that he is called Big Bird even thought he isn’t big. Big Bird explained to him that he was big before, but he will be big once he get to the courtyard where Alan and Gordon are.
After hearing how hard it was to get over to there, Mike offered to fly him over to there even thought he never done it before. Big Bird thinks it is going to be hard for Mike since he is little, but Mike explains to him that he has to keep trying no matter what obstacles he faces and what size he is. This leads to a song backed up by other bug singers. At the end of the song, Big Bird decides to give it a try and hitch a ride on Mike.
Mike flies Big Bird across the arbor, but then spun out of control and crashed landed. Mike concludes that his wings aren’t built for two. Big Bird thanks him for his help and Mike flies away.
Big Bird tries to figure out where he is now. He suddenly noticed a glass of milk and finds out that he is at Hooper's Store and he is closer to where Alan and Gordon are. After trying to figure out how he is going to get to there, he noticed Baby Bear eating his porridge and tries to get his attention. However, Baby bear didn’t hear him and was trying to cool his porridge with his mouth by blowing on it.
Just when Big Bird was about to give up, he noticed that Baby bear is blowing on his porridge and realized that the air he is blowing can move things. Just as Baby bear blows on his porridge, Big Bird goes over to there and the air blows him out of Hooper’s Stores. But the wind stopped short and Big Bird began to fall down and…
…landed on something blue with buttons on it. Big Bird realized that the shirt belongs to Gordon and he is right on Gordon. He calls to Gordon, but he doesn’t hear Big Bird’s little voice and is busy concentrating with the chess game.
Big Bird tries to climb up Gordon’s shirt to get his attention, but his shirt is silky that it makes it harder for Big Bird to climbed up. As Big Bird was about to give up, he remembers the song that Mike told him and decides not to give up yet. He figures out that since Gordon is only paying attention to the chess game, he will get his attention there.
Big Bird jumps onto the table where the chess game is and moves one of the chess pieces. Alan notices the move and comments to Gordon on a great move. Gordon is confused and says he didn’t move his piece at all. Suddenly they notice little Big Bird on the chessboard and he explains what happened to him.
Alan and Gordon start calling out for Mumford, who pops up when he hears his name. They explain to him what happened and point out little Big Bird on the chessboard. Mumford is amazed how his trick worked as he saw the little bird on the board.
Gordon asks if Mumford can fix it, but Mumford says that he could only make things little. He shows them by making Gordon small. As he says the magic words, a la peanut butter sandwiches…
…Big Bird (played by Caroll Spinney) appears on the chessboard and he is big again. Mumford is amazed and wonders how he did that trick. At that moment, Snuffy arrives and is glad to see his best friend again. Big Bird explains to Snuffy on what happened to him and that even though he enjoy being little, he is glad to be big again. At that moment, Mike arrived and he was big as well. He notices the game of chess and wonders if he can play winners. However, Alan and Gordon ran away, screaming Mumford’s name.
