SCENE 2 At the Mail-It Shop, Luis deals with a chicken customer, while Maria mops up the melted ice from a penguin's care package. Suddenly, a monster emcee appears (aided by Zoe, Elmo and Telly) to crown Maria as "Pretend Monster for a Day!" They provide her a Pretend Monster baton, plus a furry cape and crown. Maria puts on a monster voice (saying "me" instead of "I") to give a short acceptance speech. Before they let her go back to work, the monsters launch into their "Monster for a Day" song.

The Two-Headed Monster comes into mail a package, but Maria has trouble communicating. She eventually starts speaking in their monster gibberish too.

SCENE 3 cont'd Maria demonstrates to Gordon that every time she removes the crown, the monsters remind her to put it back on; she does this in rapid succession. Gordon suggests she tell the monsters that she's much too busy to be a pretend monster. The monsters return, hoping she can do some monster pogoing, but she gets honest with them and says she can't be a pretend monster. The monsters don't see this as a problem and collect their monster accoutrements. Just when things seem back to the normal amount of chaos, Luis is crowned Pretend Monster for a Day!
