Oscar hopes to bring his "alternative" Grouch band to Mudstock, the Grouch music festival. The drummer, Dusty, quits and Elmo volunteers to take his place. At first, his drumming is too cheerful, and they teach him to drum like a Grouch -- fast, and loud. Then, the group rejects him for being too cute and monster-y, so they dons Elmo some torn-up clothes and adopts a nasty attitude. Now a "true Grouch", the band performs a raucous version of "The Grouch Song".
