SCENE 1 Elmo and Snuffy welcome the viewer to Sesame Street, and wonder what they're going to play today. Elmo whispers an idea in Snuffy's ear, then they each introduce today's sponsors. Snuffy's in the mood for a Suzie Kabloozie cartoon, so they watch one ...

Taking inspiration from the previous cartoon, they decide to pretend to be pirates. Snuffy realizes that they don't have a pirate ship, and think about how to solve that problem.
Muppets Ernie sings "Imagine That", a song about imagining things that he'd like to be. First, he imagines that he's a knight in shining armor who battles a dragon. Then he imagines being a sailor crossing the sea. Finally, he decides that he's happy being himself.

SCENE 2 Maria notices Elmo and Snuffy in deep thought, and Elmo suddenly gets the idea to have Maria build them a ship. Maria doesn't have time or materials to build one, so she suggests that they use something else and pretend it's a ship. Maria leaves, and they encounter Big Bird giving wagon rides to the Birdketeers, which means they can't borrow his wagon right now. They realize that it's not easy to find a device that can fit both of them, since Snuffy's almost as big as a pirate ship -- which gives Elmo the idea that Snuffy himself could be the ship.
Cartoon A woman visits a car dealer, looking for a small car. She will only take a car small enough to fit her clowns.

SCENE 4 Snuffy and Elmo search outside Hooper's, but don't spot any X's yet. Elmo reminds Snuffy that he announced today's sponsor, and Snuffy remembers what an X looks like, especially after watching the following segment (with a passerby Honker).

SCENE 6 Elmo and Snuffy are ready to give up on finding an X by now, when all of a sudden, they spot Big Bird holding a Birdketeer meeting, displaying a a letter X on top of a crate! The Birdketeers look inside the crate to see if there's treasure in it, and they find toys to play with. Elmo and Snuffy feel proud of themselves, but then Elmo hears his mommy call him home, reminding him that he has to feed Dorothy. Elmo goes home, and Snuffy sticks around to play with Big Bird and the Birdketeers.
