SCENE 1 Big Bird and Gordon welcome the viewer and hear Stinky the Stinkweed moaning, as a caterpillar has made its chrysalis on one of his leaves. Gordon explains the process to Big Bird of how a caterpillar makes the shell (as they all refer the chrysalis as throughout the episode) to become a butterfly. Gordon takes Big Bird to see a visual aid.

Big Bird wonders what they can do to pass the time until the butterfly comes out and Stinky tells him he can help get the chrysalis safe. This sparks another idea in the bird’s brain and he runs off again.
