SCENE 1 Maria and Gabi walk out the front door of 123 Sesame Street to greet the viewer. Gabi has told her mom that a bunch of worms have been lurking about wearing costumes. Just then, they happen upon one on the stoop dressed as Carmen Miranda. Wondering where they're all going, they decide to ask Oscar who is talking to Slimey. Oscar explains that today is Wormy Gras, the biggest worm holiday there is, when worms all over the world celebrate the joys of worminess. First they put on costumes and then they all march in the holiday parade. Slimey demonstrates that he's decided to go as the straw in an ice cream soda, until they notice another worm wearing the same costume.
Toon-inventstraw
Cartoon The Great Inventor Series: Science Salutes the Men and Women Who Have Changed the Way We Live. Cartoon about the days when people tried drinking ice cream soda before straws were invented. Awful messes were made getting more of the refreshment on their clothes than in their bellies. Until one day an ice cream parlor janitor noticed that when people brought their leashed pet anteaters in to enjoy an ice cream soda, the floor was always sucked completely clean. Realizing that nature had solved the problem, the janitor invented artificial anteater noses that strapped on over people's mouths... which eventually evolved into the modern straw.

SCENE 2 Slimey doesn't want to wear his ice cream soda costume, because he doesn't want to be dressed the same as any other worm in the parade. Oscar goes through his things trying to find something for Slimey to wear, including a hat folded from tiny newspaper, a broken egg shell to go as Humpty Dumpty, and a chunk of moth-eaten sweater to go as a moth, but Slimey doesn't like any of them. When a worm drops by dressed as a hot dog inside a bun, covered with mustard, Maria suggests Slimey go as a french fry. Oscar instead has a peanut shell from a peanut that was eaten by Grumbo, the world's grumpiest elephant. Slimey likes the costumes, but Fluffy emerges from Oscar's trash can and eats the shell. Still stuck for costume ideas, Gabi and Maria leave to follow up on some ideas.

SCENE 3 Slimey is surrounded by pieces of costumes and casts off a hat that Oscar says looks like something from The Music Man. Gabi has brought a Tyrannosaurus finger puppet to wear for a mask. He likes it until another worm dressed as Barney the Dinosaur walks by, and runs away in horror. Oscar deems the costume a little too scary, and Gabi is out of ideas. Maria returns from the Library with the book One Hundred and One Worm Disguises for some ideas. Chapter One claims that to make a great worm costume, all you need is a little imagination.

SCENE 4 Baby Bear has been transporting a blue worm in a costume, which he lets off at Oscar's trash can to head for the yard. He notices that Oscar is reading a book on worm disguises. One page illustrates that a worm can stand straight next to a worm friend to form the number 11, while the adjacent page suggests painting one's worm body green and spraying everyone you meet, to go as a garden hose. Slimey doesn't like any of those either, and he's running out of time before the parade begins. Finally, he decides to dress up as a grouch just like Oscar, with a trash can and everything. Oscar notes that he wouldn't have any idea how to make such a costume, but Baby Bear interjects that he's a very artistic bear, and could easily help Oscar. Allergic to cooperation, Oscar is reluctant to accept his help until Slimey goads him into it. Baby Bear leaves to gather the necessary items.

SCENE 5 Baby Bear has returned with some crafts supplies and annoys Oscar with the fact that they're cooperating. As Baby Bear glues away, Oscar asks if he has to hum such a happy song while he works. Baby Bear replies in song that, of course, he does. As Baby Bear sings, Slimey dances along, to Oscar's dismay. Excited from his song, Baby Bear exclaims that Slimey's costume is going to be a beauty. Oscar reminds him that it's supposed to be grouchy. Realizing his mistake, Baby Bear once again notes how great it is to have a real Grouch cooperating to produce a superior product.

(First: Episode 3266)
3856-7
SCENE 7 Slimey and Sylvia don't want to be in the parade because they're both wearing the same thing. The worms argue, as do Oscar and Grundgetta, but then Gabi returns to offer advice. She presents Slimey with a bottlecap hat so that they'll be different, but Sylvia wants to wear it, causing more arguing. This observation sparks a realization from Oscar: since the worms are supposed to be dressed as Grouches, and Grouches can't argue by themselves, the two have to both go as Grouches so that they can continue their arguing... or at least the illusion of it. As the parade music starts up, Gabi notes that the worms are finally happy, which of course repulses Oscar and Grundgetta: there's nothing worse than two happy Grouches.
