They invite him to play along, but he has to go meet Linda.

Right after he interviews them, they hear Big Bird coming their way, and invite Telly to hide with them.

Big Bird realizes there's that one spot under the stairs which he hasn't covered (because it was "too easy" for anyone to hide there). Big Bird looks there anyway, and finds Elmo and Gabi!
