SCENE 1 Telly stops by Oscar's trash can, where Oscar is in need of a pet sitter while he visits his mother. He phones "Jaws-R-Us," a Grouch pet-sitting service, but the representative is not only too rude, but "doesn't do worms" (referring to Slimey). Telly offers his services, but before Oscar can allow this, Telly must pass the "Watching the Grouch's Pets While the Grouch Visits His Mother Test."

SCENE 2 Oscar's test consists of following all the instructions on his list. The first part instructs Telly on what to feed each of his animals - Iago gets hay, Lassie gets a shoe, Fluffy gets peanuts, Spot gets slop and Slimey a little slice of pizza. Telly passes the first round and will get to the second item when lunch is over.

SCENE 3 The next item on Oscar's list is to make sure the pets get their exercise. Slimey does wiggle-ups, while the rest of the pets do their favorite exercise - a game of "Toss the Grouch." Only now, it becomes "Toss the Monster," as they throw Telly around the trash can. Mrs. Grouch phones in to see if her son is leaving, just as Telly is flung up, out of the can. "Things are lookin' up, Ma!" Oscar tells her.

SCENE 4 The final step on the list is to get the pets to take their nap. Oscar sings their special lullaby, but Telly has problems making it work for him. Oscar calls in the Grouchketeers to make it as loud as possible (they're Grouch pets, after all) and it works so well, all the pets and even Oscar fall asleep.

SCENE 5 Telly has passed the test, meaning Oscar can finally leave. They see the Grouch Air flight above them and Mrs. Grouch drops from it. She has gotten tired of waiting for Oscar to leave, so she has come to the street instead. Due to the short notice, she was unable to find a sitter for Ally, her alligator, so she's brought her along too. Since Telly was already going to pet sit, she leaves him in his care while she drags her son off to the dump. Telly puts the menacing gator to sleep with the lullaby, then announces the sponsors.
