SCENE 1 Snuffy and Alice shows a big book to Bob, telling that it's a story he wrote called Are You My Brother?, about a little Snuffleupagus who is missing her older sibling. Starring Alice as the protagonist, the girl Snuffleupagus is searching for her big brother to play with, when a whirring bumblebee (Bob) approaches her. Alice thinks it might be her brother, but the bumblebee reminds her that her brother looks identical to her, having furry legs and no wings, and isn't a bumblebee. Bob tries to her cheer up by singing a tune about bumblebees, but sad Alice walks away to keep finding her brother, which will continue into the next chapter...

SCENE 2 Snuffy resumes the story with Chapter 2, where Alice keeps searching for her brother. She comes across a spider (also portrayed by Bob), but while he has furry legs, he points out that he doesn't have the same features her brother does – he doesn't have four legs, brown fur or a snuffle. Bob fails to brighten Alice's spirits by singing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider," as she keeps on looking for her brother. All the meanwhile, Snuffy admits how Bob's characters definitely look like him.

SCENE 3 Before going into the third chapter, Snuffy mentions it features a bird. Bob assumes the bird surely is himself, due to his previous roles in the story, but Snuffy reveals it's Big Bird, who's looking for his own sister. He bumps into Alice, where he describes his sister would be tall, skinny and yellow, and they just happen to meet a giant banana (again played by Bob). The banana explains to both Big Bird and Alice he doesn't have any siblings, leaving the two to go off searching. This time, he tries to cheer up Alice with a song about bananas, but Alice still walks away in sadness. Snuffy still brags how Bob's characters are just like him, but Bob asks to hear the end of the story. Snuffy says it's coming up, but not after more "important messages."

SCENE 4 In the final chapter of Are You My Brother?, Alice meets her cousin Lou (Bob yet again), who, despite looking very similar to Alice, is not her brother. She almost begins to cry, but her real brother, Snuffy, enters right on the spot, and they all laugh together in joy as the story concludes. However, even though Snuffy's reached the end of the story, he directs everyone to some more important messages...

SCENE 5 Snuffy brainstorms and decides he should turn the story into a play, using the same characters and actors as shown visually. He suggests Bob that he'd be perfect for his roles, but Bob respectfully declines. However, he changes his mind when Snuffy mentions he'd be able to sing "all those wonderful songs," and also comes up with an idea for cousin Lou. Telly announces the sponsors while everyone has fun.
