COLD OPEN An announcer (Martin P. Robinson) introduces today's production of The Tree Who Wanted to Leave the Park. He recites the cast list and tells the viewer to stay tuned after the theme song.

SCENE 1 Narrator Maria begins the story, where a king (Gordon) and his son (Telly) hear sobbing over by the subway. They find it's a tree (Bob), who intends to leave the park, board the subway and never return. He explains that nobody cares about him in the springtime, thus has no need to be around.
SCENE 1 cont'd Just then, a "little bird" (Big Bird) comes by looking for the tree, since that's where his nest is. The tree sees that the birds love him, but still wants to leave. He requests a drink from the royals and will reveal why he can't stay afterward. The announcer throws to a brief break...

SCENE 2 Narrator Maria continues the story, as the king and prince provide the tree with a drink. The nobles don't understand why he's still sobbing; they've given him a reason to stay in the park. The tree adds summer, claiming nobody needs him amongst the fun of swimming and playing ball. Just then, a farmer (Maria, as well) and her daughter (Tarah) wish to cool off and find the tree's shade perfect for having a picnic under. The tree sees he has more value than he thought, but still feels like crying and requests another drink. The announcer declares the story will resume shortly...
SCENE 3 As the story continues, the tree finishes another bucket of water and gives another reason for leaving: the autumn. All his leaves fall off and nobody wants to be around a bare tree. The Count and some of his friends arrive and start counting the many leaves on the ground. The tree realizes his usefulness in the fall and is ready to reveal the ultimate reason for his departure. The prince wants to wait until after lunch, however.

SCENE 4 As the story resumes for the final chapter, the king and prince witness as the tree sheds into his winter attire. The little bird, farmer's daughter and the Count all see nothing worth doing with the tree, which is what makes the tree so sad. Suddenly, a snowflake (Alice) falls from the sky and "hugs" him, followed by others. Everyone recognizes how beautiful he looks covered in show and the tree decides to stay in the park forever!
SCENE 4 cont'd Everyone celebrates their happy ending and the announcer recites the sponsors.
