COLD OPEN Telly practices playing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" on his tuba, which Elmo will sing along to, right after the theme song...

SCENE 1 Telly begins playing, but Elmo sings "The Alphabet Song" instead. The two argue about doing two songs at once, when Ruthie comes by to settle it. She and Telly show Elmo how bad it sounds when two songs are performed at once, which Elmo finds immensely silly. They all crack up about it.

They argue some more, until Ruthie intervenes again and has them calmly discuss their opinions. Elmo claims he doesn't want to sing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" because the lamb has fleas (mishearing the word "fleece"). Another argument ensues.

Animation Fred the fish needs water to swim in, and Betty the bird needs air to fly in. Vanessa the vacuum cleaner sucks up all the air and water, but can't hold it all in. (narration by Jim Thurman)
