Spike, who can't stand Robbie's choice of music, decides to expose Robbie to a whole different world and different style of music by taking him to the Swamp Shack. The swamp and this club are home to blue-hued mammals who have been restricted from contact with dinosaurs and lead difficult, depressing lives. Initially fearful of this different species, Robbie is completely taken with this new music and band members Howlin' Jay and his son, Sonny. Robbie plans to bring this new sound to the dinosaurs, who he believes will go crazy for it. Howlin' Jay is reluctant due to his previous contact with dinosaurs but Robbie and Sonny take a demo of their music to the head of Volcanic Records. The executive isn't interested in the music but changes his mind after listening to the tape and signs Howlin' Jay and his band to a loophole filled deal allowing the record company to steal the songs and style of the swamp and have them re-recorded by mainstream dinosaur singers and reap the profits. Robbie has to break the news to Howlin' Jay that they have been ripped off again by dinosaurs. Instead of being angry, Howlin' Jay decides to start his own record label created for and run by mammals.

Story
Spike isn't really interested in the kind of music that Robbie likes and takes him to the swamp to listen to some better music. The music is performed by a group of mammals. Robbie takes a liking to their music and meets the lead singer, Howlin' Jay. He tells Howlin' Jay that dinosaurs would love to listen to the music, but Howlin' Jay, who doesn't trust dinosaurs, denies the offer. However, his son, Sonny, is interested.

However, Robbie discovers that Volcanic Records has hired pop singer Perry Llewelyn (a Perry Como take-off) to record "I'm a Mammal" and the bands' other songs, with Warner insisting that they need a mainstream dinosaur to make the music palatable (and profitable) to the Pangaean public. Robbie has to break the news to Howlin' Jay that they have been ripped off again by dinosaurs. Sonny is aghast, but Howlin' Jay decides to start his own record label, created for and run by mammals.
Robbie records the band's music and takes Sonny and a demo tape to Volcanic Records. However, when record executive Ty Warner finds out that Robbie is trying to sell music by mammals, Robbie and Sonny are kicked out of the building. Ty orders Trish, his secretary, to tape over the demo, but when she plays it, the executive decides that he likes the music. He comes to The Swamp Shack and signs the band up with the company.

Since they are now going to be stars, Robbie invites them over for dinner. However, the Sinclair family and the mammals are quiet at first, as the Sinclairs haven't had mammals for dinner before (as guests, not as meals). However, Earl and Howlin' Jay both start complaining about their kids and, because of this, they start to get along well. After the mammals leave, Robbie watches TV and finds that albums with their music is being sold, but performed by a dinosaur. Robbie complains to Ty Warner, who believes that dinosaurs only prefer music by other dinosaurs, not mammals, and breaks the news to Howlin' Jay. Sonny starts to think that Howlin' Jay was right about dinosaurs, but now that Howlin' Jay is hearing his opinions coming out of his son's mouth, he decides to do something about it: He decides to start his own record label, run by mammals.
