Episode 317: Spike Milligan

From Muppet Wiki

The Muppet Show
Guest Starring Spike Milligan
Production Dates December 1978
Home Video Season 3

The Muppet Show is broadcast in 108 countries, so Kermit plans an "international extravaganza," featuring people from each of those nations. Unfortunately, the various people don't necessarily get along, although everyone seems to understand the Swedish Chef telling a joke. At the end, everyone gets together for the Parade of Nations, singing "It's a Small World".

Songs/Sketches

  • In a Japan-themed number, Fozzie gets confused and tries to sing "Oklahoma!", but the monster samurai dancers turn it into "Yokahama".
  • Sam the Eagle does a conversation about American/British relations with "the common typical Brit" (Spike) As the relations fall apart between the two, Spike drops his trousers onstage, revealing boxer shorts with the British flag on them. (later replacing them with American boxers after Kermit reintroduces him after the sketch)
  • A Scottish bagpiper wants to play "The Bonnie Glasgow Samba" on his bongos, but Kermit forces him to play some traditional Scottish music on his bagpipes. The song played is "Brazil".
  • Muppet News Flash: "Muppet News International"
  • UK Spot: Wayne sings "Dog Walk"
  • The Electric Mayhem's version of "America" from West Side Story becomes an international jam session when the international Muppet guests get into the act. (with songs including Jarabe Tapatío (the "Mexican Hat Dance"), Hava Nagila by the bagpiper and a polka as played by the Swedish Chef on accordion)
  • “The Intergalactic Brotherhood Of Man, Including Things”, a very random and incomprehensible sketch including Spike, Lew Zealand & a window shade
  • Spike and the Muppets sing "It's a Small World"

Notes

  • The estimate of how many countries The Muppet Show was broadcast in was pretty slippery over the years. See Counting Countries for a list of the various estimates.
