A delivery man from the Meka-Leka Magic Store in Walla-Walla, Washington arrives and gives Mumford four packages at four different times. Telly adds each box as they arrive. Mr. Handford helps them open the boxes, which contain (separately) a baton, two gloves and a piece of paper describing “The Magic Conductor’s Kit”, but it doesn’t specify how to use it.

While Mumford is gone, Telly tries on the gloves and asks Mr. Handford what a conductor does. He explains they control an orchestra and demonstrates how the baton is used. While Telly pretends to conduct, the delivery man arrives back with the instructions on how to active the kit: just say the magic words “Ala-wala-Start ‘em up!” Telly’s gloves begin waving around on their own, but the delivery man leaves before Telly can ask how to stop them.

Telly feels his arms getting tired and makes some cries for help. A penguin answers is call and helps…by bringing in his penguin friends (who are all part of the Penguinos Quartet) and have him conduct their violin recital. Telly tries to correct them, but their music is too loud for them to hear him. The delivery man arrives again with another note that gives the magic words to make the gloves conduct faster and slower (much to Telly’s aching arms). The note, however, still doesn’t say how to stop them.

The penguins get sick of playing without a break and leave, threatening Telly with a talk from their union. Mumford returns, having found the phone line was busy. He tries thinking of a magic phrase to stop it, when he comes across the right one – “Ala-wala-Knock it off!” The gloves stop and Telly finally takes them off, claiming he’s sticking to mittens from now on. The delivery guy comes back again. Mumford remarks to Telly a new trick he’d like to try, “Ala-wala-Loose this guy!”. The gloves, having heard the magic words, come alive and drag the man away before he can deliver the message.
