As harsh winds blow, Telly, Big Bird, and Elmo observe the adults putting tape of their windows. They split up and ask the adults what a hurricane is.
Oscar enjoys the storm, until Gordon points out Oscar should plan as well. Oscar makes sure all his pets are safe inside the trash can. Maria and Luis then tell him it’s not safe for him and his can to be outside, so they pick it up and bring it into 123.
Gina is about to take Big Bird to Maria and Luis’ apartment, until she finds he’s only packed a flashlight. She tells him he may be inside for a while and needs to prepare more. In a fast-motion sequence, he begins tossing various items into his suitcase. Gina thinks that’s plenty, until Big Bird remembers one more thing he need...
Maria and Luis watch the storm and hear the elephants in Oscar’s can cause a ruckus, then see Oscar fly out of his can. He explains to them that his elephants are getting their exercise by playing their favorite game, “Toss the Grouch”.
As Maria and Luis sleep, Elmo, Big Bird, and Snuffy enter their room one by one, afraid of the hurricane and wanting to sleep in the bed with them.
Now with no room in the bed, the couple has moved out and heads for the living room, where Oscar is looking out the window. He notes the hurricane has finished and is admiring the mess it left. He is disgusted to find that they’re going to clean it up in the morning. Luis then announces the sponsors.
A hurricane would later visit the street in episode 3976. Scene 2 of this episode would be directly remade for that show.
