SCENE 1 Big Bird welcomes the viewer to Sesame Street, and notices Susan and Luis looking at pictures of themselves from their childhood. They sing about how much they remember about being children ("When I Was Little"), and explain to Big Bird that everyone starts out as a child, and grows into an adult over many years. Big Bird realizes that this applies to all the grown-ups he knows, even Mr. Rogers and the president.

They bring their broken toys to Maria, and she makes a "Three of These Things" game out of it (complete with a slick '80s arrangement of the song).

SCENE 3 Big Bird encounters Gordon who's on his way to the Fix-it Shop to retrieve his air pump, which he'll use (with a basketball) for a demonstration in his science class today. In Big Bird's imagination, little Gordon (Eugene Byrd with a mustache) shows his sister Olivia (Lisa Martin) how to fill up a life preserver with air, and demonstrates to her how air can move things. Olivia retaliates by blowing him a raspberry, showing that air can also make noise.
