Likewise, Oscar the Grouch has three X's on and around his trash can and David spots three more written on the sidewalk. Nobody can figure out who put them there or what they're for. Meanwhile down the street, an Anything Muppet in a cowboy hat places three X's on the window of the Fix-It Shop and laughs to himself with pride over his work.

SCENE 2 David and Susan notice even more sets of X's pinned up all over the street. While Bob takes a nap in the yard, the mysterious stranger happens in and makes his mark on Bob's forehead before going into hiding. David and Susan identify the three X's on Bob when the AM in a cowboy hat introduces himself as Three-In-A-Row Smith, the world's greatest tic-tac-toe player. He claims he was just practicing his marks and challenges Bob to a game, but Bob says he has to clean up his mess first.

Bob recaps how Mr. Three-In-A-Row Smith has won games with everybody he's played so far, but Mr. Smith admits that while he's had fun, none of the games he's played have been particularly memorable. Snuffy has heard of the games and wants to play a round, too.

Fred explains that Marshal Grover doesn't know the difference between front and back. "That is a terrible, mean, cruel thing to say to me, Fred!" Marshal Grover exclaims. "It is true, but..." Fred tells Grover that he's facing backward, and if he turns around, he'll see Fred's head. Grover turns around, and cries: "Oh, Fred! I've missed you! Oh, it's good to see you!" Fred says that if he stays turned around, he'll be able to see where he's going. Grover tries it, and he's proud to know the difference between front and back. Unfortunately, now his head is resting on the saddle, with his feet in the air.
