SCENE 1 Telly Monster welcomes the viewer to Sesame Street, and reveals that he and the Count are going to play hide-and-seek. Telly goes off to hide while the Count covers his eyes and counts. However, instead of looking for Telly, the Count comes up with excuses to give himself more time to count, eventually getting all the way to 40 (and repeating it). Meanwhile, Telly looks for the best hiding spot and eventually settles for under the garage staircase in the yard.

SCENE 2 The Count has counted to forty twenty times now and decides to do it again. Elsewhere, Telly gets worried that no one will ever find him and decides to give the Count a hint. Even when he sticks his hands, foot, and head out as a clue, the Count still doesn't seem to know where he is, so Telly goes over to the Fix-It Shop where the Count is still counting. As a result, the Count thinks that Telly didn't make an effort to hide after all his counting. It's Telly's turn to be "it," but the Count would rather listen to him count than hide, which flatters Telly a bit.
