Episode2259
SCENE 1 Barkley goes crazy over getting more food, even after Hoots the Owl has just fed him. Hoots tries to get some shut-eye, but Barkley's over-eagerness to eat keeps him up. Susan, Bob, and Linda show up to feed him, waking Hoots up each time. After Linda satiates Barkley (with Hoots observing just how affectionate she and Barkley are to each other), Edith Prickley arrives representing the "Give a Dog a Home Home." Since Barkley lacks a dog collar and Hoots informs her he doesn't have a home, she lures the canine to the Home's headquarters with a doggie biscuit to help find him a proper place to stay.

SCENE 4 Bob, Susan, and Linda arrive at the Give a Dog a Home Home, but since Barkley doesn't have a true owner Edith can't let him go. The three envision having Barkley live at their places (or playing with their family in Susan's case) and all agree to joint ownership, but Edith insists there be one owner since they all don't live together; the best method they can think of is letting Barkley choose himself. He doesn't come to Bob or Susan when called, but upon seeing Linda give him a command in sign language he heads toward her, officially making Linda his permanent owner.

After Barkley and Linda head for home Edith mentions to Hoots that she used to run a home for "hep cats" and starts scatting along with his saxophone playing. ("Ever hear of Lady Day? Well, they don't call me Lady Night for nothin'!") Linda appears in a small oval onscreen announcing the sponsors in sign language.
