SCENE 1
Big Bird welcomes the viewer and announces that today is the Sesame Street Pet Show, where neighborhood kids will bring their pets to his nest for everyone to see. Petey passes by, walking his dog, Max (who he nicknames "Cool") ,and explains to Big Bird the responsibilities of owning a pet. He thinks he'll get a dog one day, but will name him "Nice" instead.

Oscar has a pet for the Pet Show, who he keeps in a shoebox and will be able to jump through a hoop. Gordon and Olivia open it and find that it is a shoe named Lou. Gordon insists it can't be a pet because it's not alive. Oscar shows them Lou's trick by throwing him through the hoop. Oscar is aware he's not alive; it means no work for him!
