With them, he can't hear anything, like Gordon and Susan arguing about important things they have to do. That doesn't help, so she decides to drop him off at the meeting, go off to do her errands, and then pick him up. Oscar realizes that without his Grouch earplugs, he can't hear what they're arguing about.
