Susan and Gordon welcome the viewer to Sesame Street, and explain their process of baby-proofing the apartment in order to keep little Miles safe. They're taking any breakable objects and placing them on the shelf out of Miles' reach.

As they go into the other room to change Miles' diaper, Big Bird comes in and notices Gordon's antique telescope and a flower vase sitting on shelves, when they should be on the coffee table. He proceeds to move them there, but Gordon and Susan come back into the room and explain why they moved those objects. Then they give Miles back his toys.

Big Bird assures them they don't have to worry about Miles knocking anything down, but as he turns around, his tail accidentally knocks over a jar of pebbles. He laments, "I guess we baby-proofed the apartment, but now we ought to bird-proof the apartment."

Big Bird tries to think of something to do with baby Miles. He suggests reading, and picks up a newspaper. Gordon is doubtful of this idea, but tries it anyway: "Leading members of Congress have been skeptical about prospects for passage of the amended tax package...." Miles makes a fuss before Gordon is finished, and Big Bird now says that it's a silly idea to read a newspaper to a baby.

Having scrapped the newspaper idea, Gordon reluctantly picks up a letter and starts reading it: "Dear Sir or Madam, This is to inform you that your subscription is about to expire." Miles blows a raspberry, and Big Bird calls it boring. Then Big Bird picks up a book called Baby's First Picture Book, which Gordon thinks Miles would like. It's got pictures of a dog, airplanes, shoes, teddy bears, and other things. Miles does like it!

David, Telly, and Homer Honker also want in on the sight of Miles sleeping. Olivia is about to snap another picture, when there's another knock on the door! Gordon answers it. It's Oscar, who yells, "Hey, Curly, what's happenin'?" and Gordon tells Oscar to keep it down because they're watching the baby sleep. When Olivia asks if Oscar wants in, he snaps, "No way! I hate lookin' at sleepin' babies!" which causes Miles to wake up and cry.

Kermit at Home: While Kermit is at home typing his autobiography, salesmonster Telly comes to his doorstep and asks if Kermit wants to buy a head warmer. Telly keeps worrying he's not doing a good job, and that Kermit won't want one. But Kermit reassures him that since he does have a head, he will have a use for a head warmer, unlike the things Grover sells (toothbrushes, earmuffs, and nose warmers). When Kermit puts the head warmer on, it covers his entire head. Telly remarks, "Kermit! It's -- it's you!"

Now Gordon wants to get Miles to go back to sleep. He tries holding and rocking him, and Luis suggests that a lullaby would do the trick. Everyone (except Oscar) then sings "Hush, Little Baby" to Miles. Oscar decides to leave, but not without slamming the door.

At night, Maria stops by Oscar's trash can to give him some trash, courtesy of baby Miles. Oscar learns that Miles is now asleep, and observes, "He needs to rest." Maria says it's nice of him to understand that, and Oscar explains, "He needs to rest because he'll need his strength to cry some more tomorrow!" Maria adds playing and laughing to the list of things Miles will do tomorrow, and gives Oscar a goodnight kiss.
