SCENE 1 | Big Bird waits for his best friend Mr. Snuffleupagus at his nest to help prepare him in participating in the New York City Marathon. Snuffy arrives late and needs to be reminded of what he's doing, so Big Bird shows him some clues: his four running shoes, his exercise headband, and his assigned number, which helps jog the Snuffleupagus' memory. As Snuffy gets ready, Big Bird steps out to meet with everyone else gathered around 123 Sesame Street to cheer on Gordon, who will also be in the race. Big Bird insists that they wait for Snuffy to come along with them, but only Maria is interested in seeing him as everybody else still considers him Big Bird's imaginary friend. Gordon comments that since Snuffy will be in the race they'll see him there, so Big Bird joins Gordon, Susan, Olivia, and Maria in Susan's car as Bob, Luis, and the kids wish them good luck.
SCENE 1 cont'd | At the marathon, all the other participants (seen via stock footage on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge) prepare as the big race is about to begin. Big Bird doesn't see Snuffy anywhere, and the race begins without him. After the hundreds of human participants have already made their way across the bridge, Big Bird continues looking for Snuffy, who is still nowhere in sight. After some time passes Big Bird hears the footsteps of a Snuffleupagus, and Snuffy finally arrives a few hours late. Snuffy is about to explain his tardiness, but Big Bird cuts him off so he can give him a proper countoff. Snuffy hobbles down the bridge with Big Bird cheering his best friend on, telling him he'll catch up with Snuffy in the park.

Telly notes how some of the people are handing out water bottles for the hot, thirsty runners, which gives Oscar a wicked idea. He briefly slips into his trash can before Gordon arrives, and Telly frets when he realizes he's resurfaced with a hose. Oscar sprays Gordon with the hose when he passes through, which Telly thinks is a mean thing to do. As it turns out, it is just what Gordon needed and thanks Oscar for the help! Telly begins to heap compliments on Oscar's hospitality as the Grouch grumbles in despair.

Snuffy arrives and downs the whole bucket, and Forgetful is flabbergasted to see such a creature like him. As Snuffy gets back to the race, Bob returns to get some drinks and Big Bird tells him the exciting news that someone else has seen Snuffy. Big Bird and Skye find him, and Skye explains that the purpose of this stop sign is for cars and bicycles, not foot traffic. Big Bird corrects him as he's not last; Snuffy is, despite the others brushing it off. Big Bird wants to see his best friend finish the race, and Maria is the only one willing to stay with him. The others convince her to not to waste her time, but Gordon agrees that instead he and Susan will come back later to pick him up. Big Bird vows to wait for Snuffy (even if it takes forever) as he peers down the now empty road.

They are so exhausted they end up falling asleep in the car when Big Bird finally spots Snuffy. He cheers his best friend on as Snuffy crosses the finish line, proud of his accomplishment. Upon arriving to the car, Big Bird wants to wake up Gordon and Susan so they can finally meet Snuffy, but Snuffy wants to let them sleep as they've had a busy day. They decide to push the car back to Sesame Street as a thank you for waiting for Snuffy.
SCENE 6 cont'd | Back on Sesame Street, the two friends finish moving the car in front of 123 Sesame Street and head for home as Gordon and Susan continue their slumber in the car. Big Bird announces the sponsors. |
