SCENE 1 Susan gives the kids a lecture on the differences between a small "b" and a small "d." Oscar interjects, finding the styrofoam letters she's using as boring. The group reconvenes around Oscar's trash can as Oscar displays his own letters: a small "b" that is battered, broken, and beat-up, and a small "d" that's dusty, dirty, and disgusting. Susan agrees that his letters are better visual aids, so she and the kids thank Oscar with hugs and kisses.

Bob thinks this is a terrible poem, which Oscar appreciates; his hopes are to get fifth place, which awards a year's supply of syrup - perfect for making messes.
