David gives him one, then another one, and quizzes Big Bird on adding all two boxes together; Big Bird keeps saying he has three. David is driven crazy until Big Bird tells him that he already got a box from Luis, showing him the one that had previously been out of David's view.

SCENE 2 Big Bird paints a big letter M on a giant piece of paper outside his nest. Luis asks him why he's doing it, and Big Bird says it's for Mother's Day, which Luis points out is not today. Big Bird decides to paint it for “midnight,”, but Luis explains it's daytime. Big Bird decides to have “macaroni and meatballs” for lunch, which Luis reminds Big Bird that birds don't eat. Luis lists several more M words that he likes, and Big Bird decides to give the M to him since he'll have more use for it.

SCENE 3 Oscar gets bothered by the activity he overhears from Luis, David, Bob, Susan and the kids hanging around his trash can, and gets an idea. He hangs up a sign bearing a red cross, pretending to be a doctor. When the gang goes to investigate this Oscar examines Bob and Susan, making up a bunch of diseases like the greeblies and the lumps, and the only ailment is to stay home and keep quiet. David catches on and begins to examine Oscar, diagnosing him with the “quiet wobbles,” which can only be cured by being around people making lots of noise, so the gang goes back to playing catch.

SCENE 4 Still bothered by the others’ activities, Oscar comes out of his can as a conductor by the name of "the Great Grouchanini." The gang lines up and he assigns them specific notes as part of the choir for his concert titled, "All of Sesame Street Sings." Oscar instructs them not to sing unless he points to them with his baton, but he instead chooses to point to the doors, the sky, and other silent things. They catch on to his trick, and when Oscar leaves to "conduct" his kitchen the others startle him by loudly singing their notes at the same time into his can.

The others sit down to read his selections, but Oscar becomes paranoid when he hears everybody whispering to each other. Combined with their laughter, Oscar finds this new quieter noise to be even more annoying and yells for everybody to leave, causing him to get shushed by the group. David, in voiceover, whispers the sponsors.
