SCENE 1 Maria is surprised to see a strange-looking contraption in front of Oscar's trash can. Oscar explains that it's his toll booth, and everyone who wants to pass by has to give him a jar of mud. Maria warns him that running the device may be more complex than he thinks, but Oscar just believes that Maria is coming up with an excuse not to pay up. She leaves him to his work as Debo arrives with a quart of mud so he can pass through, though Oscar finds lifting the toll arm up just a little tiresome.

SCENE 1
cont'd
Oscar admires all of the jars he's collected, but finds that he needs some help in organization and decides to hire David as the arm operator. David has trouble collecting Joey's jar of mud and working the arm at the same time, so Jay gets on board as a mud storage supervisor. Oscar complains to them when he spots a kid sneak by without paying, though David and Jay defend their actions since it's not part of their job. When the toll arm gets stuck Maria recommends Luis to repair it since he has the tools. Instead of repairing it, Oscar wants Luis to disassemble the booth, figuring it'd be a lot easier just to dig for the mud himself in the park than having to be surrounded by everyone!
