Journalist Headline Howie pops up to get the scoop on the supposed "imaginary friend," instantly coming up with several newspapers featuring headlines filled with rhymes for "Snuff." Maria, Bob, and Susan try to interpret the newspapers as Big Bird makes his case: "Well, anyone who can't believe in a Snuffleupagus certainly can't believe in an eight-foot-two bird!" Howie delivers one final headline: "BIRD SHOWS TOUGH STUFF! CALLS BLUFF IN LOCAL SNUFF HUFF!" before splitting the scene.

SCENE 4 Luis is impressed when Maria fixes a typewriter he's been having trouble with for months. Since it's David's birthday, Maria puts a ribbon around it and sneaks the gift into Hooper's Store. She orders a cup of coffee and tries to ignore David's hinting at today being special, pointing out the birthday candles nearby. Once David turns his back to get her coffee, Maria reveals the typewriter and quietly sings, "Happy Birthday to You" before they share a kiss.
The DVD release omits the last few seconds of the scene, including Maria's short rendition of "Happy Birthday" and the kiss.
