SCENE 1 Big Bird teaches words that start with the letter L, such as legs, lap, and left. When he can't think of any more he asks Gordon for help, but Gordon is in a hurry to catch the bus for work. Big Bird begins to feel that his lecture is unimportant, so Gordon waves the bus off and stays to help him. He comes up with a few choice words: "Late... and lots of luck, Gordon..."

SCENE 2 Luis shares a bottle of grape soda with Percy, accidentally knocking it off the stoop and onto the street; they leave to get a mop from the Fix-it Shop. Gordon comes out and sees the mess, immediately believing that Oscar is the one responsible. Oscar defends himself through song - “I Didn't Spill That Stuff Today.” Oscar retreats back into his trash can when Luis and Percy return with a mop and bucket, explaining they were the ones who made the mess on the 123 Sesame Street steps. Luis and Gordon give their own brief performance of the song, apologizing to Oscar.

SCENE 3 The sole of one of Luis' favorite shoes is coming apart. He takes it off and puts it on the Fix-it Shop table while he looks for some glue inside. Oscar passes by, busy collecting a bunch of old shoes for a Grouch party he's having (intending to use them for ceiling decoration). He spots Luis' broken shoe, and believing a fix-it person such as Luis wouldn't likely wear something so worn out, he takes it and leaves. Luis comes back with his repair supplies, wondering where his shoe could've gone.

Luis takes off his other shoe and leaves it on the outside table, as he can't go around wearing just one shoe. He goes back into the Fix-it Shop to look for another pair to wear and comes out empty... and discovering that now his other shoe is missing!

SCENE 4 Luis retraces his steps, then goes outside and sees all of Oscar's old shoes on the work table. He finally finds his missing pair, along with Oscar who explains the situation. He collects all the other shoes back and tells Luis to be more careful about what he leaves behind. He leaves with his box of shoes, and Luis realizes that as he was giving the shoes back he ended up giving Oscar his pair again. He stands embarrassed in his stocking feet as Oscar announces the sponsors of today's "shoe."
