SCENE 1 Oscar retreats back into his can upon seeing the viewer has arrived. A large Muppet youngster carries in a sack of bricks past, when he notices part of a discarded trike in Oscar's trash pile. He sets down the bricks, creating a loud thump. Oscar pops out and asks who's responsible. The boy introduces himself as Tough Eddie and asks who the trike wheel belongs to. Oscar tells him to buzz off and get rid of these bricks, which he can't move himself. Eddie lifts them up with ease and takes umbrage to the rude way Oscar speaks to him. He promises to return after he delivers the bricks. Oscar begins to panic, seeing how tough Eddie really is. Oscar tries to get Mr. Hooper to stay with him when Eddie returns, but when Oscar denies that he's afraid, Mr. Hooper goes back to work.

The adults arrive too, just as Tough Eddie tells Oscar what he's been wanting to say: "Do you need this tricycle wheel? Because if you don't, I could sure use it." Oscar lets him have it and Tough Eddie rips it from the trike on his own, commenting that Oscar isn't such a Grouch after all. Oscar tells the adults how he didn't need them after all, but musters up a thanks anyhow: "It's nice to have friends sometimes."
