SCENE 2 | Gordon explains to Big Bird that the parakeet (named Petey) belongs to their friend Maria, who needed someone to watch Petey while she was away. He says he needs to go to the store, but Maria will be along any minute now. Big Bird offers to watch Petey for Gordon. Big Bird tries to make Petey happy by offering him some jellybeans or singing a song; the bird doesn't respond. Big Bird recalls some birds feel happiest when flying, so he opens the cage and releases Petey. He soon realizes this was a mistake as Petey flies out of sight. | |
