SCENE 1 From his nest, Big Bird greets the viewer with a poem, inspired by the poetry book he was reading. He loves poems so much he decides to speak entirely in rhyme from now on. Gordon and Susan don't think he can keep this up for very long, but that doesn't deter him.

Exasperated, Big Bird finally stops rhyming and claims he wants an orange, which he couldn't think of a rhyme for.

Gordon states that a monster will come out and start blowing a flute. Ernie thinks that's silly, but is surprised when that exact thing happens. Gordon admits that he had worked it out beforehand with Cookie Monster, and gives him a cookie. After Gordon leaves, Ernie has an idea for a trick to play on Bert.
