- Oscar the Grouch uses his imagination to imagine a birthday party.
- A sad Ernie rummages around the apartment looking for something. Oscar enters the room and sees Ernie. He asks what is the matter, and Ernie explains that he’s lost his Rubber Duckie, and bursts into tears. Oscar tries to calm him down and assures him that it’s “only a Rubber Duckie”, but Ernie disagrees and cries even harder. Oscar tries to calm him down. He asks Ernie if he’s looked everywhere, and Ernie answers that he did. Oscar then inquires if he’s lent it to anyone, and the obvious answer is no. Oscar decides that he’ll go to the store and buy him another one. But Ernie says that his Rubber Duckie was something special and unique to him and not easy to replace. Oscar convinces him to tell him what it looked like. Ernie describes Rubber Duckie as “cute and adorable...sweet and cuddlylike," and making "a wonderful sound” when squeezed. Oscar gets all this down, and tells him to wait right there while he goes out to get him the new duckie. (EKA: Episode 0171)
- Part 2: Oscar comes back with the new duckie as he promised, which is in a brown paper bag. Ernie is relieved, but his mood changes when he pulls the toy out of the bag, which is revealed to be something completely the opposite of what Ernie thought it’d look like. Ernie thinks it’s the ugliest thing he’s ever seen, but Oscar doesn’t think so. It isn’t (in Ernie’s point of view) cute, adorable, sweet and cuddly, nor does it make a wonderful sound (but instead, makes a rather unpleasant one sounding like a whiny moan). Ernie continues that rubber duckies are supposed to be yellow, smooth and shaped like a duck. This is what Oscar missed out on because Ernie only described how he felt about it rather than what it looked like. They both realize that they both have different views on what is cute/not cute to them. Ernie is still depressed, but he thanks Oscar for trying to help. But when Ernie sits down, sighing, he hears a rather familiar squeak. Ernie digs through the things on the floor and finds...his Rubber Duckie! Ernie is happy that he’s found his duckie at last and says how cute it is, while Oscar calls his own duckie cute and Ernie's ugly . The sketch ends with them arguing over which duckie is cute and adorable. (EKA: Episode 0171)
