SCENE 1 Susan greets the viewer, displaying a lamp she just got. Gordon openly rejects the lamp, saying it looks like something Oscar threw out. The two get into a fight as Susan explains that she got the lamp to help him read at night. Gordon refuses to have it in their house, even though her intentions were good. (Gordon: "You've got the right string, baby, but the wrong yo-yo.") He leaves, declaring the issue settled.

Mr. Hooper thinks the lamps look nice, but Bob doesn't like either of them. Oscar thinks the lamps would look better with some damage. Susan and Gordon realize that their disagreement is nothing worth fighting over and agree to go to the store together and pick one out that they both like. Mr. Hooper offers to buy Gordon's lamp, and Bob does the same for Susan's so he can gift it to his mother for her birthday. Gordon and Susan leave, but now Bob and Mr. Hooper disagree about their new lamps.
