The following text is from a 1969 CTW press release, describing the first week of episodes.

β€œSesame Street is sponsored by the letter S today and Big Bird makes his contribution by giving Susan a letter with her initial sewn on it. But somehow, the letter on the sweater turns up as an E. Big Bird is heartbroken until Susan shows him how to make an S from an E.”
