She was a leading actress on the Berlin stage, along with film appearances in the 1950s and 1960s, moving more heavily into television in the 1970s. She still performs on stage and occasionally on TV. She also honed her voice skills on German radio dramas.
On the 1990s ARD puppet series Kapt'n Blaubär Club (which showcased dubbed cartoons and kids shows, including several episodes of Die Dinos for their German premiere), Hancke supplied the voice of the flower Karin (puppeteered by Iris Schleuss). Other dubbing credits include the animated Star Trek series (as M'Ress), Dumbo (prissy elephant), and Lady and the Tramp (Si). On German radio, she played Father Time's secretary Miss Chrono in the German version of Norman Corwin's play Odyssey of Runyon Jones (1963), Mary the maid in Agatha Christie's Murder at the Vicarage (1970), and other radio dramas.
