Earth Day 1990 was the international umbrella organization created to coordinate the efforts of more than 200 million people in 141 countries[1] planning to take part in the 20th anniversary of the first Earth Day held on April 22, 1970. Chaired by Denis Hayes, a San Francisco lawyer who played an integral part in the first movement led by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin, Earth Day 1990 helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The observance of Earth Day continues to be celebrated annually.

Among the outreach programs created to support Earth Day 1990, including parades, proclamations, protests, teach-ins, trash-ins and eco-fairs,[2] Time-Warner produced a celebrity-filled television special for ABC, in the form of The Earth Day Special.

Adding to their growing list of Public Service Announcements for the National Wildlife Federation, The Jim Henson Company produced a PSA using Earth Day 1990's popular slogan, "Who Says You Can't Change the World?" The spot featured Kermit the Frog singing his signature song, "Bein' Green." [3]

In 2006, HIT Entertainment promoted their release of Fraggle Rock: Complete Second Season with an Earth Day themed gift package sent to the media for advance reviews of their product.
