Dierdre is Dirk's girlfriend in the Sesame Street soap opera "The Sounds of Our Lives." One day in her living room, Dirk intends to pop the question to her, but he never gets to because she keeps getting up to turn of a dripping faucet, toss out a ticking alarm clock, and open the door for the 829 Express, the sounds of which are cutting Dirk off mid-sentence. Finally, Dirk loses it and ditches Dierdre, who then reveals that she has never before heard the sound of a slamming door.

In a preview of the next episode, Dierdre expresses delight over the sound of a jackhammer tearing up the sidewalk.
