"Danny Boy" is a Northern Irish love song composed to the tune of the "Londonderry Air," a traditional song that dates back to at least 1855 when it was collected by Jane Ross. The lyrics were written by Frederick Edward Weatherly in 1910 and set to music in 1913. The song is often considered an Irish anthem and has been performed twice on The Muppet Show.
Performances
- In episode 312, the ghost of the late Chester Pugh sings a portion of "Danny Boy." James Coco and Fozzie Bear join in.
- The Swedish Chef, Beaker, and Animal perform "Danny Boy" as The Leprechaun Brothers in the UK Spot of episode 520. The three singers are all but unintelligible, but sing passionately while attired in green tam o'shanters. Kermit introduced them with a hearty "Yaaaay and begorrah!"
