"Conga" is a hit song by the Miami Sound Machine, featuring Gloria Estefan, released on their 1985 album Primitive Love.
In Season 23 of Sesame Street, Estefan appeared in an insert performing the song. The scene starts out quiet, with the cast lounging around mundanely. Estefan shows up, singing the song and encouraging everyone to dance along (complete with a Muppet conga line). As the song fades out, she departs and the street returns to its previous state.
- Performers in the conga line include David Rudman (Ernie), Joey Mazzarino (Bert), Jim Kroupa (Elmo), Martin P. Robinson (Telly), Kathryn Mullen (The Count), Rick Lyon (Cookie Monster), Carmen Osbahr (Rosita), Noel MacNeal (Grover), Peter Linz (Roxie Marie), Camille Bonora (Merry Monster), Jim Martin (purple Honker), and Pam Arciero (blue Honker).
- Other characters in the number include Maria, Luis, Mr. Handford, Gina, Savion, Gordon, Susan, Linda, Bob, Alice, Big Bird, Herry Monster, Hoots the Owl, Biff, Sully, Slimey, Oscar the Grouch, Grundgetta, Forgetful Jones, Buster, and the Kids.
- In the dance recital episode of Abby's Flying Fairy School, Blogg says, "You know, I can't control myself any longer. Come on, everybody, let's do that conga!"
