The Clam appeared on the Where Do I Belong? game show with a fish and a scuba diver who couldn't figure out where they all belonged. He likes to lie around and be wet and happy, so he naturally belongs in the water.

• The puppet originally appeared in the first season of Sesame Street singing "Octopus' Garden", where he had beady eyes. It later surfaced on "The Ed Sullivan Show" singing the same song, but with sleepy white cartoon eyes. In both of these appearances, he is a hand puppet. In Where Do I Belong?, he is a rod puppet.
