Charles Rivkin was hired by Jim Henson as a strategic planner for the Jim Henson Company in 1988. In the years after Henson's death, Rivkin served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the company and was ultimately named CEO in February of 2000.

Rivkin negotiated the sale of the company to EM.TV in the same year, and two years later revealed plans for his own buyout when EM.TV fell into financial despair.

With the company back in the hands of the Henson family, Rivkin guided the sale of the Muppets characters to Disney in 2004 as his final venture with the company.

In 2009, President Barack Obama appointed Rivkin as Ambassador to France.^[1]
