Clean-Up
This category was created by Scott back in 2006 mainly as a temporary measure, when re-organizing the Category:Sesame Street Sketches category into subcats, at which time we agreed on certain divisions and distinctions between one-shots and recurring. Since that time, in fact, unless there's something particularly notable or interesting, we've mostly avoided creating one-shot sketch pages if all the info can be easily parked in an episode guide. This category lingered on, though, and reflects a similar problem on Sesame Street Game Shows. I just finished removing the ton of redlinks for random one-shot shows (many of which have very little info now). I've also recategorized any sketches which were recurring. Plus all game shows, real life or fictional, are listed in a theme category anyway for easy perusal.
So let's take a look at which one-shots have their own pages, most of which should probably be merged into the Sesame Street Game Shows article. Pick Your Pet and The Mr. and Mrs. Game are two of the earliest Sesame game shows, demonstrate the evolution of Guy Smiley as a character, and in general have enough information to justify themselves historically (a rule we've applied to other one-shots). Plus merging the info would be awkward, so keep but re-categorize as one-shots ("Pick Your Pet" could probably be expanded at some point). What's My Letter began life as an audio sketch and was later lip-synched to for the show and has appeared on quite a few albums, so I'd say ditto. Squeal of Fortune could probably be merged; it is one of the more thorough parodies down to caricaturing the host, but recent bits like "Dancing with Triangles" and "Meal or No Meal" have done likewise, so I'd say merge. The remainder? Happiness Begins at 40, Mystery Guest, The Remembering Game, and The Eating Game. Most have nothing outside of a description, sometimes a picture and an eka, and sometimes a performer list (which is usually unnecessary for recurring characters and the rest can be noted in parentheses if the character's not likely to get its own page). I'd say all could be merged, and with a few, the original editor may have gone from memory or not have been the best source (Dean started "Eating Game," for example). So I'd like to merge as mentioned, recat, and then delete this category. Thoughts? -- Andrew Leal (talk) 02:52, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Part of me thinks that "Mystery Guest" is notable enough have its own page, but that's only because of the unique pairing of characters who were rarely shown together (Guy Smiley and Cookie Monster were the only two who appeared together in many sketches). But otherwise, I think it could just be merged (info can be found on multiple character sketch pages). --Minor muppetz 03:08, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, the real issue is if there's info which can't be easily included in the chart or isn't on other pages, growth potential, or another element that makes for a substantial page all by itself, so I wouldn't say characters featured is a dividing line. Plus, with the merger, the links will become redirects to the appropriate slot, so they'll be just as easy to find and nothing pertinent will be lost. As is, the situation results in either duplicated info or vague descriptions. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 03:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Street Game Show
According to the "Sesame Street Unpaved" book, there is another game show called "The-Anything-in-the-World-Prize Game" where Oscar is the contestant(and is set on the street proper). What year was this? Or, did this actually exist? MasterYoshi 04:33, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know what year it's from, but I trust that the writer of the book did not just make up a sketch to include in the Guy Smiley section. --Minor muppetz 19:59, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
